insect libris, insect cabinets

Below is one of some lovely paintings of butterflies and beetles on tattered book covers by Rose Sanderson, via Flavorpill.

And speaking of beetles and butterflies, here is a nice, recent NPR piece - The Butterflies And Beetles Behind Evolution - on one of Alfred Russel Wallace's insect cabinets found - intact, insects and all - in an antique shop in Virginia some 30 years ago.

In both cases we see the potency of remnants and staying power, physically and figuratively, of insects collected, be it with paint or pin.
