Dead oaks and fire ants

While visiting San Antonio TX I saw a lot of dead oaks and decided to point out how prevalent they are as well as point out some fire ant mounds. The oaks are dead not because its winter, for oaks in the south do not lose their leaves, they are dead because a fungus has infected their roots which then spreads to near by oaks and causes large areas of land to be ridded of their oaks some of which are hundreds of years old.

Amazing commentary - thanks for posting all of this Jay! Those poor oak trees... I wonder what effect this all has on the fire ants?
